Little Caps (Developmental Program)
We will offer the Little Caps program for swimmers who are able to swim the length of the pool, but may not be proficient yet in strokes such as freestyle or backstroke. Please note: our entire swim program will develop swimmers of all ages. Inexperienced swimmers ages 9 and up should sign up with the regular swim team in their respective age group.
This does NOT take the place of group or individual swim lessons.
These are swimmers who and are between 5 and 8 years of age by June 1st (5 year olds must have completed Kindergarten), who are working toward competing in a meet by the end of the season. Once the swimmer, parent and coach agree that the swimmer is ready to try a meet, they will be able to enter meets just like the regular team members.
Registration fees for this program will be the same as regular summer swimmers. For families who only have swimmers in Little Caps, the 5 point volunteering requirement is not part of registration. However, should your child decide to do a meet by the end of the year, we may ask you to help fill a small volunteering role for those meets, while still ensuring that you are able to help your child at the meet.
Group size is limited. We anticipate this group practicing in the Group 4 practice timeframe, M-W during the season. However, the time of day may be adjusted slightly based on numbers of swimmers in the competitive team to balance the number of swimmers in the pool.
Swimmers will be evaluated the first week of practice. If it is determined that a child is not quite ready to participate, the registration will be refunded and the spot will be opened to someone on the waitlist. Similarly, if a swimmer exceeds the expectations for Little Caps, the coaches may recommend movement to the 8 and Under group.
Due to team fee obligations to USA Swimming and the Northland Swim Conference, fee adjustments after the first week are not guaranteed. All refunds are considered on a case-by-case basis.
We know that the youngest swimmers are often the hardest for a parent to decide placement for re: registration, so please don't hesitate to reach out. We are happy to talk through specifics with you to help with your decision.
